Darrell’s career as a professional ballroom dancer began early when he was given the distinction of “best dancer” in high school. In 1987, he secured a teaching position at the prestigious Arthur Murray Dance Studio. He later established his own private dance class business, called “Darrell’s Dancers,” which he continues today. For over twenty years, he has been offering lessons to the general public on various dancing styles ranging from the rumba and the tango, to the fox-trot and the waltz. From couples learning to dance at their wedding to seasoned dancers seeking to polish their routines, many people from all walks of life have benefitted from Darrell’s guidance, skill, and instruction.
Darrell has been teaching dancing for 27 years. His training started when he was very young because his mother was a professional ballroom dancer who was his first teacher. Darrell has been trained by many champions of the dance world including Carl Blair of Arthur Murray, swing and American Rhythm champions Scott and Kathy Hannum, Bill Godsell who taught for 50 years in Wilmington, Chuck Danza who is a world Latin champion, world renowned champion Evgeny Dyachenko and Inna Ivnenko national and world American Rhythm Champion (Tony Dovolani’s former partner).
Darrell has worked for 7 different studios. He was the lead choreographer and head instructor at Studio 18. At that studio, Darrell was in charge of an elite group of professional dancers.
